I've seen a lot of people (and been one myself) saving up all the things they wish to do for someday in future. Because they are busy to do all the things they need to do today. The question is- will they be able to fulfill their wish? Or more importantly, will they have the will left to fulfill those wish in the future?
Our heart is like a 5 y/o kid. Sometimes it gets interested in something on a whimsical wish. It keeps telling you to give it what it wants. You can either choose to make it happy by appeasing its desire or you can simply ignore it. If you choose the latter one, well, its gonna cry for a while; but give it something else to be busy with, it will completely forget about whatever it wished for. There's another way- you can give it the hope that you will get that stuff for it later. What happens then? One day you buy that stuff or get it somehow- but you will find out that the once burning desire is replaced with something else.
This kind of explains why we find nothing to do in our earnestly desired vacations even after making a whole list of things to do beforehand.
I've recently finished reading 'The Alchemist' by Paulo Coelho and one of my many favourite quotes from this book is-
"You will never be able to escape from your heart. So it's better to listen to what it has to say. That way, you'll never have to fear an unanticipated blow."
Here's another part from the book-
"Everyone on earth has a treasure that awaits him," his heart said. "We, people's hearts, seldom say much about those treasures, because people no longer want to go in search of them. We speak of them only to children. Later, we simply let life proceed, in its own fate. … So, we, their hearts, speak more and more softly. We never stop speaking out, but we begin to hope that our words won't be heard: we don't want people to suffer because they don't follow their hearts."
These quotes speak of more than following your hobbies but I think it's relatable to all. When we are students, we are afraid to take big tasks besides studying even if our heart calls for it. When we are workers, we are stuck in another cycle. If you are looking for the dream-like free time, it's those patches of vacations we get in between- but timing and desire don't match together then oftentimes.
The idea is not to ditch your obligations but to give your vocations as much priority. Only if you care about living the one life you've been blessed with leaving no regret in your heart.
After all, you are responsible for your own happiness and you have every right to be happy.
Have a smiley day! <3
